Active Directory Adoption in Full Swing

The survey received responses from about 800 IT professionals. Reporter
Joe McKendrick wrote that “Active Directory migrations, the surest sign
that organizations are committing themselves to Microsoft's infrastructure,
are in full swing and should be the rule rather than the exception by
the end of this year.”
In all, 78 percent of respondents will have either finished or be in
the midst of their AD rollouts by the end of this year. They’re moving
to AD for a variety of reasons:
- Enhanced manageability—54 percent
- Exchange 2000 support—39 percent
- Better client management—39 percent
- Better security—38 percent
Just 14 percent said they had no plans to move to AD.
More good news for Microsoft is found in server statistics. “Of all of
the servers at respondents' organizations (an average of 400 servers),
some 56 percent are running Windows 2000. Overall, 83 percent of the organizations
responding to the survey run Windows 2000 Server in some capacity,” the
story states.
