New-Generation Exchange 2007 Exams Coming Soon

Microsoft hints at structure of Exchange Admin track of exams, currently in development phase.

Even as it continues work on the final exams for SQL Server and .NET Framework, Microsoft is laying groundwork for new-generation Exchange Server 2007 exams. According to a Microsoft MCP Flash newsletter sent yesterday, Microsoft's Learning Group is developing three new exams for Exchange 2007. One exam will target the Technology Specialist level, while the other two will be requirements for an MCITP: Exchange Messaging Administration title.

Microsoft hasn't released any details on subject matter, objectives or release dates. Whether Microsoft will provide an upgrade path for those holding the MCSE: Messaging title is, at best, speculative at this time. Company representatives said it would comment on the exams in the following weeks.

Exchange Server 2007, according to several published reports (here and here), is targeted for a late 2006/early 2007 release. A solid beta 2 was released on July 24.

For early adopters, Microsoft has Exchange 2007 courseware, 3938: Updating Your Skills from Exchange Server 2000 to Exchange Server 2007, available for preview here. The final version is expected to be available in October.

This is a developing story, with updates to follow.

MCP Note: According to the MCP Flash, Microsoft says it has clarified the requirements for the MCITP based on customer feedback. Simply, the MCITP: Database Developer requires two PRO-level exams (70-441, 70-442), plus one MCTS exam (70-431). The MCITP: Database Administrator is similar, with two PRO-level exams (70-443, 70-444) and one MCTS (70-431). Those who have an MCDBA can sill upgrade by passing one exam (70-447).
