Microsoft to Rebrand Retail Management System to Dynamics RMS

Microsoft is rebranding its Retail Management System to become another offering in its line of Microsoft Dynamics business products.

The announcement of the name change came via the Microsoft Dynamics UK Blog site this week. "It is becoming part of the Microsoft Dynamics family of products in January to be called as Microsoft Dynamics RMS," according to the blog posting.

Microsoft's rebranding move was first spotted by Microsoft Watch's Mary Jo Foley.

The Microsoft Retail Management System (RMS) combines point-of-sale and back-office features with multi-store retail management and enhances efficiency at the point of sale while providing crucial data for stock management and relationship marketing, according to company statements.

"RMS has out of the box integrations with our Dynamics ERP products and integrates well with Dynamics CRM so it provides a great point-of-sale opportunity for retail customers who run Microsoft back office systems," the blog post said.

The company shipped version 1.3 of Microsoft Retail Management System in January. That update provided improved integration between the package's Headquarters module and Microsoft Dynamics GP financial management software. Microsoft began rebranding its ERP, CRM, accounting, and other business applications under the Dynamics moniker exactly a year ago in a move to add cohesion between what to that point was seen as a disparate grouping of products that the company had acquired over the previous several years.
